Notes:
1. Kristina Boardman’s wonderful pebble paintings, which I highlighted in a post last year, inspired me to take these photos along the shore. Her paintings show why even with the amazing capabilities of digital photography, masterful paintings by talented artists of a given subject capture an expressive element that photos can’t match.
2. Fleet Foxes, one of my favorite folk-rock groups, after a several years’ hiatus released the album “Crack-Up” earlier this year, which contains the song from which the above quote is taken. While the song is principally about Pecknold’s challenging relationship (like most!) with a close friend, like many Fleet Foxes songs it also contains some thoughtful ruminations on life. For me, the line quoted above conveys nicely how we as people are meant to be social and connected, in varying degrees, and how goodness and purpose flow from that. Song video below.

Well, that video was very different from anything I’ve seen or heard.
The pebble photos immediately took me back to my childhood when I would look forward to seeing the first pebbles appearing from under the winter’s snow cover. After about six months of not seeing bare ground, it’s a real treat to see the first pebbles washed in the spring snow melt.

Yes, and the funny thing is, my husband had those same experiences as a child on the other side of the country. The first pebbles of spring! Beautiful photos, btw.
What a special beach to have so very many colors! I don’t feel comfortable crowded together especially not in cities. Much prefer beach solitude.
I prefer smaller places too. But wherever we find ourselves a sense of community is nice.

I liked the musicians, thanks. In the middle of my watching the lyrics a line popped up that said “are you tired of cleaning your gutters” and it took me a minute to realize an ad had inserted itself into things. I loved the rocks in Nova Scotia. We head to the Maine coast next week and will also, undoubtedly, bring home rocks.

I collect beach stones and pebbles, we used to fill up buckets of these to fill in areas around birdbaths and lampposts around their bases.

Connecting and interconnecting are ways to become closer and learn how to create bonds. It would be wonderful to try and find common interests instead of dwelling upon our differences. . . 🕊

Thanks for stopping by! Fleet Foxes played a concert here last night. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go, but I heard it was wonderful. They remind me a little of Stornoway – have you ever heard of them? I’m looking forward to more of your pictures and ruminations. 🙂
Calista, that must have been Fleet Foxes’ concert in Monterey — how wonderful! Yes, I’ve listened to Stornoway and I like their music as well. Both groups use a lot of harmonies in their music. Thanks for your nice comments. 🙂

I listen to a great deal of music. But connecting a dot from one of your blog posts about things we learn from our children, one of my sons shared a Stornoway song with me several years ago. Happily, they and I share a love of many types of music where we learn from each other.
That’s wonderful! I’ve tried to instill a love of music in my son as well. His dad, who is a musician, definitely helps with that as well.
